UN Sustainable Development Goals

(UN SDGs / Global Goals)

Each and every team chose a global goal that their team agreed to focus on.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG or Global Goals) have 17 set goals to help the earth agreed upon with 193 different countries in Rio de Janeiro in 2012. The Global Goals to launch from 2015 to 2030 with the objective to produce a set of universal goals that meet “the urgent environmental, political and economic challenges facing our world”. The Global Goals are “the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”. We chose to do Global Goals #12, Target #12.b which states, “Rationalize inefficient fossil-fuel subsidies that encourage wasteful consumption by removing market distortions, in accordance with national circumstances, including by restructuring taxation and phasing out those harmful subsidies, where they exist, to reflect their environmental impacts, taking fully into account the specific needs and conditions of developing countries and minimizing the possible adverse impacts on their development in a manner that protects the poor and the affected communities.” The responsibility and choices made in our daily lives has an impact on the environment, presently and for future generations.
