Our extra-curricular programs promote an inclusive, encouraging environment where students can develop artistic skills, confidence, and positive relationships with their peers.
Extra-curricular programming is offered based on student interest and evolves with what our students wish to explore!
Dance company is offered to students in grades 9-12. Students are selected through an audition process and a series of rehearsals. Dance Company takes part in tdsbCREATES (board-wide initiative) to develop an understanding of social justice themes through dance, leadership skills, teamwork, and exposure to live performance and professional mentor-ship.
Band is offered to students in grades 9-12. Students are welcome to join band as an extra-curricular activity to enhance their music training. Performance opportunities are presented throughout the school year, both at Downsview and in the community.
Spoken word is an individual form of expression where students write their ideas, truths, and stories on a particular theme and share them through rehearsed speaking. Students are mentored for performances and have the opportunity to build self-confidence and find their voice through this art form.
Stage Crew is offered to students who wish to learn about the 'behind the scenes' aspects of theatre. Students will learn sound and lighting and take on leadership roles for performances, assemblies, commencement ceremonies, and events in our auditorium.
VisArt & Photography Club
VisArt & Photography club allow students to explore their artistic skills through creating and capturing innovative art pieces. The work that is produced in VisArt & Photography is often showcased around our school, as well as at board-wide events, galleries, and other exciting venues.
