STEPS to Construction

Application criteria

All applicants must be between the ages of 18 – 26 and reside in an under-resourced community in the Greater Toronto Area

A minimum of Grade 10 Math, English & Science Credits are required or a GED

You must submit a complete application including your resume and high school transcript or GED

Aecon Diversity in the Trades (ADT) and Aecon Women in Trades (AWIT)


The programs provide an opportunity to create meaningful change in our industry and diversify our workforce through clear and measurable action. Our goal is to remove workplace barriers and increase participation in the trades by providing underrepresented groups with the resources and tools they need to succeed

Training and work placement opportunities

Building Up’s pre-apprenticeship program is a 16 week paid training program that uses construction contracts and in-class training to prepare individuals facing barriers to employment for successful careers in the trades. Participants are paid $14 per hour for 12 of the 16 weeks

FINANCIAL AWARDS

To inspire a new generation of tradespeople by providing access to education, training, and employment in construction.

unique 15-Week Culinary program for youth between the ages of 15 and 30, where participants get paid to learn access skills building opportunities and employment readiness support.


Introduction to Healthcare (Pre-PSW, CCA, PT)

This Program begins every quadmester: September, November, February and April

Pre-apprenticeship Hairstyling

Yorkdale’s Hairstyling program runs only once a year from September to June.


Childcare Certificate Assistant Program

The Childcare Assistant program has registration in August for September and in January for February

Nutrition Certificate Program

Yorkdale’s Nutrition Certificate has a focus on sports nutrition and is an integrated part of the Personal Trainer Program but can be take as a stand alone certificate for those who interested in a career as a Personal Trainer or nutrition staff member


Personal Trainer Program

Yorkdale’s Personal Trainer Program enables students to gain the knowledge and skills necessary for a career in the growing fitness and health field.

Personal Support Worker Program

The Yorkdale PSW program is dedicated to providing comprehensive training to the next generation of Personal Support Workers preparing them for careers as contributing members of a multidisciplinary health care team.

PSW Certificate Program:

CALC’s PSW program was last accredited by PEPA (Personal Support Worker Educational Program Accreditation) and is funded through the Ministry of Education and adheres to the PSW Standards Guidelines from the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities.

Culinary Co-op Certificate Program

In this program you can gain the knowledge and learn the skills necessary to work in the high paced, exciting world of food preparation in some of the most established and highly regarded restaurants in Toronto, as well as earning credits towards your OSSD

Early Childcare assistance certificate program

CALC’s Child Care Assistant Program enables you to gain knowledge and practical skills through in-school studies and a co-operative education experience in a licensed day care facility.
