Enrolling in a music education program for her undergraduate degree, and then a teaching degree, Candice started gaining valuable teaching experience 20 years ago. Highly sought as a private tutor for elementary grades and university essay editing, Candice has experience working with students of all ages and all levels of learning. With a strong background in teaching pedagogy and special education, Candice heavily believes success is attainable for everyone, and has developed individualized curriculums for both students and courses. She takes special interest in ensuring she addresses the whole child, prior to addressing academics; as well-being and mental health are at the forefront of learning. She is also a Reiki Level II Practitioner, and working towards a Masters in Reiki with a speciality in childhood healing.
Candice completed her Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Education, and Master of Education (Social Justice Education) at the University of Toronto. She has a strong interest in eradicating anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism in the education system, in addition to promoting 2SLGTBQIA+ and disability rights.
With a minor in psychology and child development, Candice taps into each student's individual personality, learning styles, and developmental needs in order to create a dynamic and effective program for each student. Candice is passionate about teaching core subjects, with a focus on mathematics and literacy. Using technology, inquiry-based practice, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches, and other innovative teaching methods; Candice enhances and motivates each student to perform to their potential, and to maximize each student's learning.
Candice is employed by the Toronto District School Board as an Elementary Teacher, which allows her various opportunities to meet with several different types of students. Candice holds specialities in Reading, Mathematics, Music, Inclusive Education (Equity), and Special Education, with hopes of helping students reach their full potential and experience success in all aspects of their lives. She is a Certified Google Educator, goIT Champion Facilitator and Ambassador, and Wonder Workshop Ambassador. She has recently engaged in learning with I-THINK Together, run by the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. This program empowers students to engage in integrative thinking in order to problem solve for real-world issues.
