ABOUT OUR MIXED CHOIR PERFORMANCES

FALL DEMONSTRATION CONCERT:

The Fall Demonstration Concert is our first concert of the year.  This gives the high school choirs a chance to showcase the music they have been working on during the first quarter of the school year.  For a performance based class like choir, the concert serves as a test of the skills learned during the first quarter of study.  In order to give family and friends a chance to see "behind the scenes", the Mixed Choir will also demonstrate some of the activities and exercises that we use in daily rehearsals to strengthen voices, improve tone quality, and learn music literacy.  This concert takes place in the THS cafeteria, and is free and open to the public.

CHRISTMAS VESPERS CONCERT:

Vespers is our seasonal concert at the end of the second quarter.    In addition to providing "songs of the season", the concert serves as a test of the skills learned during the second quarter of study.  This concert takes place on a Sunday afternoon during a busy time of year, so it is important that all students cross check their schedules early in order to avoid conflicts with other activities.  This concert takes place in the THS cafeteria, and is free and open to the public.

HS AREA CHORAL FESTIVAL:

This festival provides students in both of our HS choirs the opportunity to sing with students from other high schools in our area of the state, and to work with a college level choir director for a day.  Students attend regular classes in the morning, then bus to the host school for an afternoon of rehearsals and an evening concert.  Family and friends are strongly encouraged to make the trip to the host school and attend the concert!

TAYLORVILLE MUSIC FESTIVAL:

The Music Festival is our annual showcase for musicians from all of the Taylorville Schools.  All choir and band students from grades 4 through 12 participate in this amazing evening of music and community pride.  The evening is always full of fun music, talented students, proud parents, and a few surprises, too.  The Music Festival also serves as a test of the skills learned during the third and fourth quarters of study.  This concert takes place in the THS West Gymnasium, and is free and open to the public.

SENIOR HONORS CONCERT:

The Honors Concert is our final concert of the school year.  It gives us the opportunity to honor the graduating seniors from both choirs, and to thank them for giving of their time and talents for the benefit of the music programs at THS.  In addition to short performances by each of the JH and HS choirs, year-end awards will be given and the new members of the THS Madrigal Singers will be announced.  This concert takes place in the THS cafeteria, and is free and open to the public.

BACCALAUREATE:

The THS Baccalaureate ceremony takes place in conjunction with Graduation.  Mixed Choir and Concert Choir students will combine for this performance.  This is our chance to give a special gift of music to the graduating class.  This is a short commitment for the singers, but it is also a very important one.  This ceremony takes place at a different local church each year, and is usually attended by graduating seniors and their families.
