Born in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, my grandmother on my dad's side once taught in a one-room schoolhouse. I grew up valuing hard work and education. My hope in the classroom is to pass this along to my students through the exploration of reading, writing, and conversation.
I teach Reading, Social Studies, and Science. My co-teacher is Mrs. Grosvenor, who teaches Math. Third grade reading largely focuses on comprehension skills such as main idea, supporting details, making connections, and inferring meaning. We use CKLA as the foundation of our Reading curriculum. The units of study can be found here. Social Studies looks into local geography, history, culture, and government. Science standards have just been updated and include matter, motion, energy, structures/functions of organisms, ecosystems, and Earth as a planet within the universe.
