My name is Olivia Shuler and I have been a social worker since 2015. I love working with students and families.
I am a native of Transylvania County and care for my community. I love spending time with my family, thrifting, and gardening. I graduated from Mars Hill University.
I am the school social worker for Pisgah Forest Elementary, Brevard Middle School, and Davidson River School.
What does a school social worker do?
Provides for students' needs (school supplies, clothing, food, etc)
Coordinate Backpack Buddies and other food programs
Collaborates with school counselors and administration to meet any student needs
Address attendance issues with students and families
Work closely with students identified as homeless
Serves as a liaison between school and DSS
Meet with students individually regarding home and family life concerns
Serves as a liaison among schools, community, and home for all students
Attend community based meetings as a representative of the school system
Assist with crisis interventions (suicide screenings/lockdowns)
Develop procedures and protocols necessary to school social work
