Welcome to Davidson River School, the school the offers high school students alternatives to help them graduate on time.
A little about me...
My name is Barbara Grimm and I began my journey at Davidson River School in 2018. But, it actually began long before that. Shortly after obtaining my degree in Elementary Education, I had a vision to provide a safe and enriching environment for teens at risk. As a young person, I had faced many obstacles and made a few poor choices. Yet, despite that, I developed what it took to overcome and persevere to achieve my goals, ultimately becoming the first person in my family to obtain a college degree.
Although I have spent most of my career in elementary schools, I have worked diligently to create equity in educational settings so that all students have opportunities to thrive. I believe strongly that in order for our great republic to succeed, we must have an educated populace, not just of a chosen few, but for all, no matter the zip code, socio-economic background, or family of origin. Education is the great equalizer and I have worked passionately over the years to create educational settings where that can occur. It has been a rather circuitous route, but fast forward 30 years and I find myself as Principal of Davidson River School realizing the place of my original vision.
On a personal note, I am married to William Grimm and we have 4 children and 2 amazing granddaughters. We raised our three oldest children in Savannah, GA, before deciding to relocate to the beautiful western North Carolina Mountains. Doug, our youngest, moved here to Brevard with us and is a Brevard High School graduate. Working in Transylvania County has been a pleasure and I encourage you to visit Davidson River School anytime throughout the school year to see our students working in their own ways to becoming high school graduates and productive citizens of our community and beyond.
