Battle of the Books is a competitive team of 6-8th grade students who read a list of 22 young adult books and compete against other schools by answering detailed questions. This club is for bibliophiles only! If you love reading and the spirit of competition, this is the perfect club for you!
We compete at the county level against Rosman Middle in late February/early March* and the winning team
advances to WNC Regionals to represent Transylvania county.
*January 2021 Update: Battle of the Books competitions have been cancelled at the state and regional levels due to the inability to meet safely and adhere to Covid protocols. We will start up again in the Fall of 2021.
Fall Semester Meetings will begin in September of 2021. Look for info from your ELA teachers or
posted in the BMS library at the beginning of the 2021 school year.

BMS Battle of the Books, 2019-2020 Transylvania County champions!
In a close battle, Brevard Middle came out victorious over Rosman Middle at the county match held in early March in the TC Library Rogow Room. Due to Covid-19, Regionals were cancelled, but BMS is proud to represent as the TCS Middle School Battle of the Books Champions. Way to go!

So what is BoB?
After reading books on the list and memorizing the titles and authors, students prepare for competition by answering questions that begin with the phrase: "In which book...?" We compete against RMS at the county level, and the winner of that contest will advance to Regionals in the early Spring.
