Unit 1: Empire, Belief, and POwer
Chapter 1: The World in 300 CE
In this chapter we get in overview of the world during this time as well as become familiar with what role history plays in our lives
Chapter 2: The Roman Republic and Empire
Students will explore the expansion, fall, and lasting contributions of the Romans.
Chapter 3: Medieval Europe
Students will explore the development of the feudal society in medieval Europe, as well as the causes and effects of events such as: The Crusades, Black Death, and Magna Carta
Chapter 4: Early Islamic Empires
In chapter 4, the Islamic civilization is highlighted with the origins, expansion and legacy of Muslim empires.
Unit 2: Power and change in asia, africa, and the americas
Chapter 5: China
Students will understand the development of Chinese society, government, and belief systems, including its legacy on the modern world.
Chapter 6: Medieval Japan
China's influence moved west to Japan where the Japanese adopted it into their own unique culture and beliefs. Students will examine the cultural, social, and political growth of Medieval Japan.
Chapter 7: Early Mesoamerica
Students will learn about the society and culture of the people of the early Americas (Inca, Maya, Aztecs)
Chapter 8: Africa in the Middle Ages
Students will understand the legacy of the civilazations of Africa on not only the continent but the rest of the world. Specific case studies of the empires of Mali, Ghana and other African empires will be examined.
unit 3: new horizons, new ideas
Chapter 9: The Renaissance Era
We begin to close in on the modern world with chapter 9 and Europe's Renaissance. Students will examine the origins and impact of this time.
Chapter 10: Age of Exploration
The age of exploration will allow students to understand the impact that cultural interconnectedness had on the world, both positive and negative.
Chapter 11: Seeds of the Modern World; Reformation, Science, and Enlightenment
As we move further into the development of Europe's Renaissance, student's will learn about challenges in beliefs through science, politics, and religion.
