NATURE CONSERVANCY
"So far I have learned the ropes of motion sensor animal cameras that are being used to obtain data for a massive experiment. Right now we are in the data collecting stage. I have been tasked with periodic trips to reset cams. With this outdoor work, I have gotten a lot better with navigation and topographical maps. Also, when I go on the trails with my mentor, he always tells me something cool about biology that I have never heard before. I think this internship is a great starting point for my future major in environmental sciences."
RABBIT ROW AUTOMOTIVE
"I have learned many things like balancing tires and performing oil changes. I am able to ask the mechanics questions without feeling shy. I've also learned how to communicate with customers and be able to talk to them about their cars. I am excited to attend Casper College and pursue a career as a mechanic"
TETON COUNTY/JACKSON PARKS & RECREATION/POOL
"As a lifeguard, I get to assist people whether it be a serious medical emergency or encouraging a child to take a swim test. I also spend a lot of time supervising and correcting the behavior of people to avoid a serious swimming accident. I have learned about working well with others and fair leadership; traits that will influence me no matter where I end up."
FISH CREEK VETERINARY
"Equine therapy is what I am going to study in college. At the clinic, I have been able to work with all animals. I was exposed to horse laser therapy which I found really interesting. I have been taking an online class in laser therapy and am able to apply my lessons on my own horse. I am learning about certain spots that are "pressure points" for horses that can help them."
TETON COUNTY PARKS & RECREATION/KIDS CLUB
"I enjoy caring for the kids in the after school program. In addition, I am responsible for planning and prepping the activities for the kids. I have been able to improve my communication and professional skills by not only working with the kids but also their parents and my coworkers. The most rewarding part of my job is the reaction of all the kids when they have fun doing all the activities."
MUNGER MOUNTAIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
"I love being a classroom volunteer in Mr. Primitch's dual immersion fourth-grade classroom. With the 4X4 class schedule this school year I was not able to fit a Spanish Language class into my schedule. Through my work-based learning experience, I am able to build on my Spanish skills by speaking and listening to Spanish in the classroom every week."
JACKSON HOLE EXPRESS LUBE AND CAR WASH
"I get to earn money and learn about a field I want to work in through my work-based learning experience. At JH Express Lube I have learned how to perform oil changes with both synthetic and conventional oils, wiper changes, tire repair, headlight repair and air filter replacement. After I graduate high school my employer and mentor is paying to enroll in the Penn and Foster Career School so I can get my certification."
