How did your experiences at Jackson Hole High School help you to reach your educational and /or professional goals? Jackson Hole High School enabled me to be where I am today because of the passionate staff that encouraged me to expand my horizons. Programs like Schools to Careers allowed me to pursue a passion of mine and realize that it was what I wanted to study full time. I was allowed to use my 7th period of the day to go and work at a production company in Jackson Hole. This program enabled me with just the right amount of encouragement to take a leap and pursue film at NYU.
What was the most valuable lesson that you learned while a student at Jackson Hole High School? As a student at JHHS I learned the value of pursuing what you want to do as an individual regardless of how many other people are doing it. I was one of the only students in my grade to be into filmmaking as much as I was and it was never discouraged. My peers and the staff at JHHS always encouraged my passion.
What is your greatest professional accomplishment? It is hard to quantify what my "greatest accomplishment" is because some of my films without huge accolades mean a lot to me. Commercially, I just finished directing a major commercial campaign for MasterCard/Luxury Card which had me working with a world class athlete and super model Lily Aldridge. The ads are still running on television, most recently during the World Series. I've had my documentary and music video work written about in The Atlantic, NPR, Paper Magazine, Nowness, Highsnobiety and more. I've been fortunate to work with some awesome clients like MasterCard, Steinway, Facebook, Spotify, Fjallraven and Breakout. My recent documentary, "Hummingbirds in the Trenches" is a film I am currently most proud of.
What advice do you give current Jackson Hole High School students? My advice to any JHHS student is to not be afraid of trying to experience more. I love Jackson Hole, and it will always be home, but leaving to go to New York City was one of the best decisions I ever made. Don't be afraid to take chances and pursue what you love even if no one else around you is doing it. Lastly, don't be afraid to reach out and talk to those that are doing what you envision yourself doing. There are a lot of amazing connections and resources out there, all you have to do is ask.
