How did your experiences at Jackson Hole High School help you to reach your educational and /or professional goals?
By giving me the chance to challenge myself—academically, athletically, and in other ways—Jackson Hole High School helped me develop the type of study habits and work ethic that served me well during my time in college and later on in life.
What was the most valuable lesson that you learned while a student at Jackson Hole High School?
Don’t take the easy way out; when you have a chance to do something that will help you grow as a person, even if it’s more difficult, take that chance.
What is your greatest professional accomplishment?
In April of 2015, I was part of a US Air Force C-17 crew that airlifted Marine Corps rescue helicopters into Nepal following a terrible earthquake. The impact on the population was significant; the earthquake had triggered landslides isolating many of the more remote areas of the country, and it was difficult if not impossible for emergency services to access these regions. The ability to reach these areas by helicopter—a scarce resource in Nepal—made our delivery of these Marine helicopters and their crews hugely important to the Nepalese recovery efforts. It was incredibly humbling to be part of a global effort to provide aid in a part of the world that I had only read about and never imagined I would see.
What advice do you give current Jackson Hole High School students?
Challenge yourself. There are tremendous opportunities to grow and learn that will present themselves during your time in High School, whether it means joining a sports team, taking an advanced placement or more difficult academic class, or any of the myriad extracurricular programs available. Those opportunities only come along every so often; don’t pass them up!
