Robotics

Welcome to Robotics. We explore robotics, electronics and programming. Grades 5-8 meet on Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4:15. Grades K-4 meet on Thursdays from 3:15 to 4:15. You do not need to sign up and you do not have to attend each session. There is no separate fee except you do pay the normal after school care fee.

For grades 5-8 we plan to start with Raspberry Pi computers this year. We will learn a bit (pun intended) about the Linux operating system and learn to do some programming with the Python programming language. We will then build and program some STS-Pi Raspberry Pi based spaceship robots. We have many other robots we can make this year including Arduino based robots and Micro:Bit robots.

For grades K-4 we plan to start the year with Meet Edison robots. Recently the company added Scratch programming for the Edison robots. We will also work on a telegraph system to learn the properties of electro-magnets and electronic communication.

For all grades, we also plan to develop weather stations. To understand weather monitoring, students will work with both analog weather instruments as well as digital weather sensors. We will likely be able to explore systems based on Raspberry Pi computers as well as Arduino and Micro:bit micro-controllers.
