Melissa Smith
msmith@tcps.orgRaised in the Pacific Northwest, Mrs. Smith has always had a love of learning. From a young age, she knew she wanted to be a teacher. For as long as she can remember, she has been journaling, writing stories, and has had the aspiration of becoming children's author. As an elementary school student, Mrs. Smith thrived in math, but thought she was "bad at reading" because she was a slow reader. It wasn't until high school that reading and writing were truly brought to life for her, and she has been immersing herself in it ever since. And this is her goal as a teacher- to bring learning to life!
Mrs. Smith graduated from Univeristy of Washington (Go Huskies!) in 2009 with her B.A. in English Literature. In 2010, she graduated with her Master in Teaching from Northwest University. Since her first teaching job in 2010, Mrs. Smith has taught every grade, K-8!
After five years at a private school in Seattle, Mrs. Smith and her husband moved to San Diego, where she joined the TCPS community as a 4th-5th grade teacher in 2016. While Mrs. Smith has loved teaching at the 5th grade level, she has found her passion teaching language arts at the middle school level.
When she isn’t teaching, Mrs. Smith stays busy playing with her daughter Malaya, watching sports, baking, hand lettering, and creating designs.
