Introducing Music Profiles
Let me introduce you to Music Profiles! These are freely available to any pupils who take music tuition, whether inside or outside of school.
A Music Profile is a powerful tool that helps parents, tutors, and class music teachers track a pupil's progress on their chosen instrument. It’s packed with additional materials to support the pupil's musical journey and rewards their achievements with music points. These points can be exchanged for prizes, and pupils can also earn certificates and badges as they progress through music grades.
Now, let’s explore what you’ll find in a Music Profile.
The Home Page
On the home page, you’ll see the pupil’s badge level. This reflects their progression on their instrument and could be one of four levels: Pre-Grade, Bronze, Silver, or Gold. If you’re unsure which badge level matches your child’s instrument grade, you can check the “About” page for more details.
If your child takes tuition in school, the home page also shows any missed lessons—perhaps due to tutor absence or school events. At the bottom, you’ll find the “Music Profile Notes,” which is a short summary of the pupil's current level and their next target.
The Music Research Tab
This tab contains helpful study resources!
In the Music Library, pupils can borrow music books during term time.
The Theory Booklets, Games, and Videos page includes all the theory booklets pupils work through in school, along with games and videos that support their learning.
The Instrument Resources section provides access to YouTube tutorials and sheet music to help pupils practice.
And then, there are the BandLab and Noteflight pages. BandLab is an online audio workstation where pupils can compose and record music. Noteflight works similarly but focuses on written notation. Both are fantastic tools for creativity and experimentation!
The Booking Tab
Pupils can book weekly performance slots through the “Perform for Us” page, either during celebration assemblies or afternoon breaks. And for those in Year 7 and above, there’s the option to book a practice room once a week during morning break or lunch.
The Helpful Websites Tab
Here, you’ll find a list of music clubs, both inside and outside school, on the “Music Clubs” page. There are also links to online music stores that we recommend.
The Fun Links Tab
This tab is packed with engaging content:
The Artist of the Week page features Spotify playlists of musicians and composers, which are updated weekly and played in school.
The Music Shows page links to entertaining web shows, including music documentaries and child-friendly programs.
And the Music Theory Games page connects pupils to fun, interactive games that match the theory books used in school.
The Tutor Contact Tab
This is where you can get in touch directly with your child’s music tutors.
The Tutor Notes Tab
Tutors can leave notes or upload helpful materials here, so pupils always have access to extra support when needed.
The Reports Tab
This section stores all tutor reports, making it easy to track progress and milestones.
The Store Tab
Finally, there’s the music store! Pupils can use their earned points to redeem exciting prizes.
