Learner Centered Literacy

Inspires and supports the reading lives of both students and teachers.

Creates inclusive collections that acknowledge and celebrate diverse experiences and provide instructional opportunities to empower learners as effective users and creators of information and ideas.

Here is what I am currently doing in the Library in this focus area: The librarian takes book requests from students at all grade levels and from all teachers. Creating a long term vision for collection development and literacy initiatives for our libraries. Weeding out unused and non-relevant materials from the collection to make physical space for new print titles, as well as collaborative space. Have in place an equitable and kind "Lost Library Book Policy."

Here is what I want to do in this focus area: Weeding the collection in both libraries, to create a current, relevant, and inclusive collection. Keeping the collections current and relevant to students, faculty, and families. Create a Collection Development policy that addresses: weeding, purchasing decisions, and ciruclation policy. Update interlibrary loan and resource sharing on the TC Schools Board Documents.

Here are my goals for this year in this focus area: Weeding of Libraries (DDC 400-599, GRA, and METKIS E.) Following CREW and MUSTIE guidlines.

Here are my goals for next year and the future in this focus area: Continue to take request, evaluate titles, and purchase quality titles for our libraries. Explore and acquire print and digital books and databases that support student literacy at all grade levels. Have a library collection that is current, vibrant, and within 11-13 years average copywrite date from curren tyear. Use CREW and MUSTIE weeding criteria for weeding. Future weeding rotations: 2022/2023 = DDC 600-699 and YA, METIS F. - L. and EC. 2023/2024 = DDC 700-899, and Fiction, METIS M. - U. and VIDEO. 2024/2025 = DDC 900 and VIDEO, METIS V.- Z. and EASY.
