Empowers Students as Creators

Empowers Students as Creators Encourages and facilities students to become increasingly self directed as they create digital products of their learning that engage them in critical thinking, collaboration, and authentic real- world problem solving.

Here is what I am currently doing in this focus area: 5th and 6th grade students create research reports with final products created in GoogleSlides. Seventh Grade Fact Finding Class where students create final project in Google Slides, both by themselves, and as a class. Students are given the requirement to cite sources using MLA format, have an illustration, and report facts found during research. Students will work collaboratively with at least one other student.

Here is what I want to do in this focus area: Help all students in grades 5-8 increase their ability to use technology as a tool for research, learning, and presentations. Teach responsible use of information, the need for accuracy of information and continue to cover need for citations, fair use and basic cyber security awareness.

Here are my goals for this year in this focus area: Help all students in grades 5-8 increase their ability to use technology as a tool for research, learning, and presentations. Teach responsible use of information, the need for accuracy of information and continue to cover need for citations, fair use and basic cyber security awareness. Support 7 and 8th grade English teachers in curriculum with mini lessons during library time. Assist 5 -7th grade students to research and create a finished product with grade level appropriate citations and digital presentation. Use the TV monitor and slide show outside the library to promote excellent student work done in conjuction with the library. Implement MS Read Aloud.

Here are my goals for next year and beyond in this focus area:

Keep co-teaching and reinforcing ELA standards during Library classes with middle school teachers. Teach digital/media literacy class for 7th graders. Teach digital/media literacy to a high school class once a year. Continue teaching website evaluation to sixth grade as part of Mrs. Smith's research unit. Continue to support reluctant readers by offering HS and MS read alouds on a weekly basis.
