The MERIT team at the high school is an essential element of the success of the program. These individuals pour their time and energy into individualizing instruction, building strong trusting relationships, and creating schedules in order maximize student opportunities and achievement in high school and ready students for post-graduate options. Each member of the team offers unique gifts that culminate into the best comprehensive team of educators in the region.
Director of MERIT
Mrs. White is the District Director of MERIT, assisting students 5-12 throughout their entire MERIT journey. She works closely with the MERIT teachers and students, ensuring they have the resources they need for everyday success. Her commitment to nurturing young talent has transformed the learning experience for many students, helping them excel academically and personally. As AP Coordinator, she oversees the area's premier Advanced Placement program. Mrs. White has been an educator for over 35 years and is honored to be a part of the Yellow Jacket family.
High School MERIT Coordinator
Dr. Burnette believes in the MERIT mission to help create transformative experiences for students during their high school career. She works with students all four years to help them stay on track, work towards their individual goals, and dream big. She has a vision where no child is limited by location, resources, or lack of confidence. Dr. Burnette comes alongside MERIT students to champion them in their classes, SAT/ACT prep, college admissions process, experiential field trips, and service learning goals.
MERIT Transition Coordinator
Ms. Rogers assists MERIT students with college applications, scholarship essays, SAT/ACT preparation, and is heavily involved with transitioning students from eighth to ninth grade successfully. She is well-loved by the entire educational community and this affection is evidenced by her many accolades including: STAR Teacher, Teacher of the Year, and Outstanding Teacher in her Masters Program. Ms. Rogers has a Bachelors in English, Masters in Secondary Education, and is currently completing her Specialist in Leadership.
Senior Guidance Counselor
Ms. Shealey works with students, on an individual basis, to reach their goal of becoming a MERIT graduate. She believes the MERIT program has guided many students in a rigorous path of study in the Thomas County system. Ms. Shealey enjoys encouraging students to reach beyond their comfort zones in competitions, service learning, and academics to see them succeed. Ms. Shealey has worked as a teacher and counselor in education for 31 years.
Service Learning Coordinator
Colonel has served as the Service Learning Coordinator for the Thomas County Schools system for more than seven years, coordinating with the many Thomasville and Thomas County non-profit agencies to discover service opportunities for the students of TCMS and TCCHS. Before taking this position at Central, he was the Senior Air Force JROTC Instructor for Thomasville City Schools, with the mission of developing citizens of character dedicated to serving their community and their nation. Before that career, Colonel served on active duty in the United States Air Force for 30 years as an Administrative Specialist and as an Aerospace Munitions and Aircraft Maintenance Officer. He love working with young adults who want to serve and become future leaders.
