My name is Dr. Burnette, affectionately called Burnie or Doc by my students, and I have been in the field of education for over 15 years. I hold a Bachelors Degree in Political Science from Valdosta State University (VSU), a Masters of Secondary Education from VSU, and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from VSU. I hold endorsements in both gifted and online teaching, certifications in teaching AP courses, and firmly believe in continuing education. Classes taught throughout my career: Geography, Economics, American Government, AP European History, World History, APWHM, American History, APUSH, and Peer Leadership. Having experience in multiple school systems (Colquitt, Thomasville, VSU, & Citrus) and teaching a multitude of courses has afforded me the opportunity to see different leadership styles, diverse methods for instructional delivery, and make a network of amazing educators that I adore. I feel passionately about education beyond the traditional classroom walls and anytime I can take students to locations to explore learning, I try to. I believe passionately in individualized attention to students and their needs and I therefore try really hard to make all of my students feel seen and loved.
I currently work as the MERIT Coordinator for the High School and teach AP World History Modern and AP Focus.
We love to hike, bike, kayak, travel, read, lead small groups, and spend lots of time with our little boys.
We love to travel all over the world. I have taken students to several different countries, and I am on #22, many of them I've visited more than once!
