Dear APAC Choir Participants,

On behalf of the Taejon Christian International School community, I warmly welcome visiting performers and schools to the 2024 APAC Choir Festival. Welcome to the beautiful city of Daejeon and the vibrant country of Korea. We are excited and honored to host this event.

This festival provides opportunities for personal and musical growth, both as individual performers and as members of your choirs. Participants are encouraged to perform to the best of their abilities, remembering that success is not solely measured by musical achievements but also by how they conduct themselves both on and off the stage. I encourage everyone to present their best selves throughout the festival and to engage with others, fostering new friendships and connections through the shared language of music.

The Taejon Christian International School Secondary Administration is excited to welcome you to the APAC Choir Festival! It is a joy to gather as a community of international schools in Asia and to celebrate the incredible gifts and talents our students bring to this festival. We warmly welcome the singers, choir directors, and chaperones, and we are deeply grateful to host our guest conductor, Mr. Jonathan Bligh. Tremendous effort has gone into preparing for this week by so many students and choir directors, with great support from families and staff. It is truly a privilege for TCIS to host this event.

Participants, we hope you will take time to build meaningful relationships, engage with challenging music, and learn from the expertise of our guest conductor. Most importantly, we hope that you will experience genuine love and care while you are here at TCIS. Blessings to each of you as you participate in the 2024 APAC Choir Festival!

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2024 APAC Choir Festival, hosted here at TCIS! We are thrilled to have talented singers from across the region join us, and I am excited to witness the beautiful music you will create together.

This festival is not only a chance to showcase your skills but also an opportunity to experience the culture and vibrancy of Daejeon, Korea, and to become a part of the welcoming TCIS community. We hope you will make meaningful connections, create lasting memories, and enjoy every moment of this enriching experience. Welcome, and let’s make this an unforgettable celebration of music and culture!

Guest Conductor

Jonathan Bligh is a passionate advocate for young singers in Australia. He is a Conductor, Vocal Coach, Ensemble Singer and Music Educator.

He holds a Master of Voice Pedagogy from the Westminster Choir College (Princeton, USA), Graduate Diploma of Education (University of Adelaide), Bachelor of Music (Elder Conservatorium, Adelaide), and a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (London, UK).

Jonathan is the Founder and Artistic Director of the internationally award winning male voiced a cappella group the Festival Statesmen. The Festival Statesmen are two time Champions of the World Choir Games, New Zealand 2024, two-time winners of the AUS-ACA National A Cappella Championships, and winners of the Barbershop Harmony Australia Chorus Competition with the highest score in history of the competition. Jonathan is a Core Member of the internationally renowned Adelaide Chamber Singers.

Jonathan was Head of Vocal Studies at The Scots College (Sydney) and previously worked as a senior music teacher in the Selective Entry Performing Arts Program at Charles Campbell Secondary School (Adelaide). Outside of choral directing and teaching, he has also directed a number of musicals including Footloose, Les Miserables, Gypsy and Spring Awakening.

It is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all of you attending the 2024 APAC Choir Festival at Taejon Christian International School (TCIS). I am honored to have the opportunity to witness and celebrate the extraordinary talent each of you brings to this event.

As we come together for this special occasion, I would like to offer you some advice to make the most of your experience: “If I could only ask one thing of you, it would be to come with an open heart and mind. Be open to meeting new people, forming new friendships, exploring new techniques, challenging yourself to listen more intently, and expressing emotions more deeply. There is something truly magical about gathering from different countries to unite our voices in song. Cherish every moment!"

May your time at TCIS be filled with meaningful connections, expanded horizons, and a deepened passion for choral music.
