About RUPA: RUPA was started in 2019 at Ryerson University to bring together a community of Lusophone/Portuguese speaking individuals on campus. As a new student group, we have been eager to aim to shine a light on the Portuguese culture while tying in our roots to Portuguese Ryerson Students, Alumni, and Staff. We have hosted movie nights, paint nights, cooking events, giveaways, and various social media campaigns virtually in order to keep our students engaged. You can be a part of this immersive and rewarding experience, make new friends, and even gain valuable skills in the executive roles. As a first year student this is a great place to start! Catarina-Raquel de Oliveira Gomes - Vice President of York University Lusophone Association
YULA was re-established in 2015 but has been around since the late 80s and was previously known as YUPA. Our mission is to unite Portuguese speaking with the intention to create a community within the university, in which students can help each other. We help students through social events, distribution of scholarships and active participation in the Portuguese community.
Tania Barbosa, President of University of Toronto Portuguese Association
Daniel Martinho, Vice President of University of Toronto Portuguese Association
UTPA’s purpose is to bring together individuals interested in learning about and celebrating Portuguese culture, and encouraging education for Portuguese youth. We achieve both of these goals through organizing, hosting, and collaborating for cultural events on campus, fundraising to give out scholarships at our annual gala, and giving outreach presentations in schools from the Portuguese community. We value post-secondary education and continue to help lower dropout rates and increase college/university enrolment rates of Portuguese youth.
