TCDSB: Experiential Learning

What is Experiential Learning?

Experiential Learning is not just learning by doing - "it is the process of reflecting on an experience, both during and after the experience, extracting meaning from it, and then applying what has been learned that makes the learning truly experiential for students. "

TCDSB Experiential Learning Criteria:

1) Experiential Learning must both represent and grow a community.

2) All parts of the Experiential Learning Cycle must be present. Students must participate in their learning experience. They must reflect upon their learning experience. They must apply learning from that experience to another part of their lives. Community partners must also be involved in all parts of the Experiential Learning Cycle.

3) A detailed plan with specific outcomes must be at the core of all Experiential Learning. The plan must be responsive and connected to relevant curriculum and sound pedagogy.

4) Experiential Learning opportunities must be inclusive and equitable.
