We recommend using the Google Chrome Browser for the optimal experience with Google Classroom and to ensure access to all extensions that have been purchased for you by the board.
Chrome can be downloaded here.
Currently, the ability to add add-ons to the tools in the G-Suite has been disabled for all TCDSB staff and student accounts as a result of some recent changes instituted by Google.
Files from your work H Drive can be accessed using the Citrix Receiver:
a) Log into the TCDSB Intranet.
b) Go to Applications. On the Applications page, you will see a column titled “Related Links” in the
right-hand column. Click on “TCDSB Services (‘H:’ Drive).”
c) You will be prompted to “Detect Receiver.” Click this.
d) You will be asked to check off the User Agreement and click “Download.”
e) Once the file downloads, click on it to “Install.”
f) Once installed, you will see a page load that has a “H – Drive – New” icon. Click on this and
choose “Open.” You may be prompted to “Open Citrix Receiver Launcher.”
g) You can now search and open your files on your H Drive. You may be able to save files onto your
computer from here. If you are unable to save the files, you can email them to yourself. To email
files to yourself, select the files you want, right click, and select the option to email them.
We recommend saving all files to your TCDSB Google Drive, which has unlimited storage and can be accessed from anywhere.
The Assistive Technology Site for TCDSB Parents includes instructions and tutorials about various tools in the Google Suite and assistive technologies.
You can also send them the direct link to our YouTube channel with video tutorials that cover TCDSB-specific login procedures and other how-to videos.
There is no need to add or download Read&Write and EquatIO - they have automatically been pushed out by the board.
To access the extensions, you must use the Google Chrome browser and log in properly to your TCDSB Google account.
To join a TCDSB Google Classroom, students must be logged into their TCDSB Google Account.
Feel free to share this tutorial.
If you would like to message all students in your Google Classroom, you can simply post an update in the Stream section.
TCDSB teachers do not have access to send emails through Gmail or their @tcdsb.ca address. This is because we have our @tcdsb.org emails which are tied to Outlook.
Guardians receive email summaries that include the following:
Missing work that is overdue
Upcoming work that is due soon
Announcements, assignments, and questions posted by teachers
If you would like to send a mass email to parents, you should do so through your Outlook email. We recommend creating a group for your parents for mass emails you send out. Please remember to use the BCC function to hide the parents’ emails. View the tutorial linked here.
Yes, assignment submissions can only be viewed by the teacher.
No, there is no limit to the number of posts and assignments given to students in Google Classroom.
The Google Classroom Help Center has detailed resources.
