Who We Are

St. Mary Catholic Academy is built on our Catholic Gospel values and summed up in our school motto: “That they may have life and have it to the full.” This motto teaches our students to make a life that is meaningful, purposeful, joyful, and eternal. Our aim at St. Mary Catholic Academy is to create an environment in which our students understand life is a continual process of learning, practicing, and maturing, as well as failing, recovering, adjusting, and overcoming to reach their fullest potential.

Our school offers students a wide range of course selections that are as diverse as our community. Students are therefore given the opportunity to explore areas of the Arts, Modern Languages, and Technology while completing their core courses. St. Mary Catholic Academy is an International Baccalaureate school offering a Diploma Programme (IB) in Grades 11 and 12 and pre-IB courses in Grades 9 and 10. The IB program provides enrichment opportunities with the University of Toronto, Ryerson, and the University of Waterloo. SMCA also offers the unique Specialist High Skills Major Programme in the area of Transportation Technology. Finally, we offer an extensive Cooperative Education Program and comprehensive English as a Second Language for our English language learners.

To meet the growing computer literacy interest of today’s students, St. Mary Catholic Academy has numerous computer labs, sets of Chromebooks on each floor of the building available for all classes, and SMART Board Interactive Displays in a number of our classes. Our state-of-the-art science labs are also equipped with computer interface technology.

Through the Achievement of Excellence, students are recognized for their contribution to our community, as they build their repertoire of skills. Here at St. Mary Catholic Academy, we offer an environment that encourages students to explore their individuality. With a plethora of extra-curricular activities, students can pursue activities including soccer, track and field, volleyball, and basketball. We showcase students’ artistic talents through dramatic productions, band and choir performances, and art showings. We also offer students the opportunity to actively participate in many leadership activities and clubs. Finally, we provide students with the opportunity to nourish their faith development through community service.

St. Mary Catholic Academy is a safe place that promotes faith, responsibility, respect, civility, and academic excellence for all, in a safe environment. The Ontario Schools Code of Conduct sets clear provincial standards of behaviour. It specifies the mandatory consequences for student actions that do not comply with these standards. St. Mary Catholic Academy's Code of Conduct complies with the Ontario Schools Code of Conduct and as such, our students are expected to follow these regulations and TCDSB policies.  All students, parents, and staff have the right to be and feel safe in the school community.

Our students graduate as caring, responsible citizens who are problem solvers and demonstrate their God-given potential. Most importantly, they find dignity and vocation in work that respects the rights of all and contributes to the common good.

We hope you enjoy learning about our school and school community.

OPEN HOUSE INFORMATION NIGHT

Prayer for Grade 8 Open House

We sign ourselves in the presence of God...

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Dear God,

We pray today for all our Grade 8 student visitors. May they feel welcome in the St. Mary community. May they feel comfortable enough to express their true selves, realizing that we are all made in the image and likeness of God.

We recognize that there is some fear and trepidation entering into high school—a new environment, a new beginning.

We pray for a special blessing on our grade 8 guests, that each of them is able to discover the gifts that you have blessed them with. May they use these gifts for the benefit of others in loving service to you.

Amen

St. Mary, pray for us.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
