Social Emotional Learning & Mindfulness, Grade 11 Open (IDC3O)
This course invites students to explore the 5 competency clusters of Social Emotional Learning (SEL): self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making. Social Emotional Learning is the process through which human beings acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, to set and achieve positive goals, to feel and show empathy for others, to establish and maintain positive relationships, to cultivate a growth mindset, and to make responsible decisions. As well, the course will focus on investigating the theory and practice of mindfulness, which is the awareness that arises from paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, without judgement. Relevant stories, articles, and films will be used to explore the vast topics on SEL and mindfulness theory.
