Over the past 12 years Sonia's passion and career focus has been assisting and supporting children and adolescents with their social, emotional and academic needs. She believes that true learning only begins when the overall wellbeing of a child is embedded in the teaching and learning processes. She is currently an educator with a large GTA school board. Sonia Lewis holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, Bachelor of Educations, and a Master’s in Education. Her research has been primarily focused on investigating the factors that contribute to Black female students success, wellbeing and failures within the educational systems. Sonia prides herself on being a lifelong learner, as such she has completed numerous other degrees, diplomas, certificates and have facilitated, attended and delivered a plethora of student and parent engagement sessions.

TCDSB Elementary Teacher
Kari Pinnock is a Health and Physical Education Teacher with the Toronto Catholic District School Board. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Health and Physical Education from Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia, and her Masters of Science Degree in Kinesiology with a specialization in Athletic Administration and Sports Management from Indiana University.
Having taught in the Atlanta Public Schools system and Indiana University, Kari left education to further develop her skills in Athletic Administration and ventured into the area of community relations with the Indiana Fever of the WNBA.
An avid sports enthusiast, she coaches track and field and cricket. In 2018 she was awarded a commendation from Mayor John Tory for her work with the Mayor’s School Cricket Tournament.
Entrepreneur
Founder, CEO of How She Hustles, a Toronto-based network that connects diverse women through social media and special events. Emily leads this community with a digital reach of 18,000 diverse women.
Most recently, Emily hosted a women’s roundtable with Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and was invited to meet former First Lady, Michelle Obama. Before becoming her own boss, Emily was a senior communications officer at CBC, one of Canada’s largest media companies. In 2017, she created HERstory in Black, a digital photo series featuring 150 inspiring black women. She also created a national digital series about Canada’s diverse women and non-binary entrepreneurs. Emily is profiled in the 100 Accomplished Black Canadian Women and Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women list. TCDSB Superintendent of Education
Kimberly started her career with the TCDSB as an elementary teacher, moved into school leadership as Vice Principal and Principal while raising her school age son and daughter with her husband. She is the recipient of the 2018 Toronto Principal of Excellence Award presented by OAPCE. She is currently Superintendent of Educaion for 23 downtown schools. Her portfolio includes Student Achievement and Well-being and Health & Safety.
TCDSB Equity and Human Rights Advisor
Lavinia Latham is the TCDSB Equity and Human Rights Advisor. Lavinia is also a human rights lawyer with litigation experience before several courts and administrative tribunals including the Supreme Court of Canada. As the TCDSB Equity and Human Rights Advisor, Lavinia works tirelessly to promote and uphold principles of human rights and equity across the TCDSB through her independent and impartial HREA office by advising the Director’s Office on matters of equity; providing proactive solutions to system leaders; receiving human rights and equity complaints; and so much more...
TCDSB Child and Youth Worker
Caitlin Fontenelle is a Child and Youth Worker at Father Henry Carr. She is a 2020 graduate from Humber College's Child and Youth Care Program and previously attended Senator O’Connor Catholic High School. Growing up she was known for being a triple threat when it came to arts, academics, and sports.
TCDSB Student
Rabeca Mengesha is a grade 12 student at Madonna Secondary Catholic School. She is the CSLIT Director of Equity, which advocates and focuses on racial prejudice, students with special needs, and student's voices. She is a firm believer in students getting involved to increase the quality of their student experiences.
TCDSB Student
Kayla Russell is 17 years old and attends Madonna Catholic Secondary Schoo. She is involved in quite a few leadership positions in her school. She is the Social Justice Representative on Student Council, Club Council Co-President and Ambassador co-lead amongst other things.
