Every February, the TCDSB joins Canadians nation-wide in activities that honour the legacy of African Canadians, past and present. It is a time to learn more about these Canadian stories and the many important contributions African-Canadians have made to the settlement, growth and development of Ontario and Canada.

There are many individuals of African descent that have left a lasting impact on Canadian society, leading to change and growth. We see notable African Canadians as some of our greatest heroes - people we continue to look up to as great leaders and role models.

It was the Honourable Jean Augustine, one of the first black women elected to Canadian government who made the official motion declaring February as African Canadian Heritage Month in Canada. It is thanks to her efforts that we have an entire month dedicated to notable African Canadians.

This month, let us continue to celebrate our Canadian heroes and be reminded that through perseverance as can all achieve great things in our life.

While we cannot celebrate Black History Month as we had hoped to in person, the LAT African Caribbean Student Association (ACSA) has put together a virtual performance that celebrates the history, culture, and talent within our own community and the Black community as a whole. Please enjoy!

Having Tech problems?

Toronto Public Health has changed the self-screening questions. The phone app that we have been using in the beginning of the year can no longer be used to gain entry to the school building. All students are required to self-screen by signing the Passport and show the Passport to a staff member prior to entry. Please bring this form with you each day.

We thank you for your continued support. As a community, we are approaching the end of Quad #1 on Wednesday Nov. 18th, 2020 and will be entering Quad #2 on Thursday Nov. 19th, 2020.

On November 5, you received a TCDSB communication from our Director, Dr Brendan Browne, The letter indicated that, “To protect course offerings and student access to pathways necessary for graduation, we are introducing a pilot that will allow these 1500 secondary students who are currently in-person and requested to switch to virtual, to remain connected to their home school with a virtual option”.

Therefore, only those students who indicated a selection for Virtual School in Quad #2 by October 19 are able to join Loretto Abbey classes virtually in the mornings during their in-person class time (refer to the calendar attached for in-person attendance). We are not able to accommodate any further switches to the virtual option or vice versa at this time.
