How Was BACCSyt (Bishop Allen Canadian Cancer Society Youth Troop) Founded and Why?
Originally, I didn't think of BACCSyt becoming a club because at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, around October, I wanted to run Relay for Life at BA. Relay is a program run by schools and the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) to raise awareness in school and neighborhood communities for cancer and its impact. At first, my principal said it was a great idea, but we were unable to go forward with it because of another event that happens during the spring, the same time as Relay, was supposed to happen. Spring passed and went by, but the event never happened. I really wanted to run Relay For Life because I wanted to spread awareness throughout my school, and my friends thought it was a great idea because nothing like this has ever happened at BA. Near the end of May (May 24th to be exact), I started talking to students asking if they wanted to help run a club that would help plan and develop Relay for the following year. It came to my attention that a lot of people were interested in the club and wanted to help out. Not only did we want to bring Relay to BA, but we also wanted to have a ton of smaller events and trips during the school year, such as a Movie Night in the Caf one Friday of the year or a trip to the ROM to see cancer's impacts in history. By the end of the school year, we had developed a full Executive Team, which can be found on the "Meet The Team" page. Everyone was, and is, excited to start. I, along with my co-presidents, Keira Drysdale and Sebastian Brunner, are thrilled with the progress of the club and we can't wait for the 2023-2024 school year.
Here to another year of fighting cancer together,
