I am a Lecturer in Economics above the Bar (equivalent to Assistant Professor) at the University of Galway's J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics. I am also an ESRI Research Affiliate with the Behavioural Research Unit. My main research interests are behavioural economics, experimental economics, and using behavioural science to understand individual decision-making, particularly in market settings (i.e. consumer decision making). My current research agenda focuses primarily on experimental environmental economics, specifically carbon tax. I am investigating research questions such as how the role of tax structure, framing, and comprehension influence perceived fairness and acceptability. I began this research agenda as an IRish Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow.

Outside of research, I enjoy long distance running (especially marathons), and the odd game of five-a-side.

(My name is a bit tricky, you might have noticed - it's pronounced like 'Salem' except with an F: 'Fay-lem' is pretty much correct. Irish language phonetics are quite different to English.)
