The rock cycle

The creation, destruction, and alteration of all rock types repeatedly is referred to as the "rock cycle."

Rock is created at the interfaces between plate boundaries, in places where sediment is crushed, and in newly formed rock. 

Weathering, erosion, and subduction all contribute to the destruction of rock at plate borders where plates collide. 

Under intense heat and pressure, rock undergoes transformation.
