Enhance climate adaptation and extreme weather resilience of highly renewable penetrated Irish electricity system
Enhance climate adaptation and extreme weather resilience of highly renewable penetrated Irish electricity system
Collect and analysis historical data of extreme weather and electric system operation.
Investigate the coupled environmental factors and electric operation conditions that lead to
the collapse of electricity networks.
Analysis the policy impact on climate adaptation of electricity networks, and provide and green
and strong electricity network planning strategy considering 2030 and 2050 environmental
goals.
Provide a systematic regional power grid-supported resilient defence strategy to maintain the
electricity supply, especially for critical loads such as hospitals and fire stations, during extreme
events. Develop advanced machine learning method to fulfil the process.
This work package will assess the impact of the volatility of renewable resources and weather
conditions, including extreme weather scenarios, on the resilience of the system in the time
scales of the inertial response and fast frequency response (subseconds to seconds) as well
conventional primary frequency regulation (seconds to tens of seconds) of power systems.
