At the end of the workshop series, participants will be invited to participate in a gallery walk of their art within an open library space. The participants visual, physical or digital art creation will be displayed in an exhibit, with a museum label to accompany it. The gallery walk invites New York City and the intergenerational knowledge it holds to the historical libraries to engage with the community. The gallery walk has the potential to not only showcase the value of each artist but also connect history to art in the process for the local and global community.
The gallery walk emphasizes authentic assessment, where the tasks are rooted in real-world practices and cultural traditions. The final gallery walk exhibition is both a summative assessment and a celebration of participants’ growth throughout the workshop. It provides a space for participants to share their creations and demonstrate a deep understanding of the art forms explored. This assessment approach not only evaluates participants’ learning but also honors the cultural identities and experiences explored in the workshop, creating a space for empowerment, connection, and growth.
