The curriculum is designed for a semester-long health class that has a total of an hour of class time per week. Because each class has its own set of needs and interests, there is one extra unit on intimacy that can be substituted in based on student interest and the teacher’s perceptions of students’ prior knowledge. The curriculum will be divided into eight units, each with four 30 minute lessons. Lessons can be grouped together into two hour-long sessions, or combined to create two hour workshops. The units address sexuality, gender, race, reproductive justice, safer sex, body image, and intimacy. The last unit is meant to focus on the final assessment, the Sexuality Reflection project. While it was originally intended for high school students, the lessons could be used for workshops with adults, or adapted for middle school audiences. Many of the units could be taught as stand-alone workshops.
This writing sample contains the Unit Overviews for four of the nine units, and each of the included Unit Overviews links to one lesson plan from that unit. More lessons could be shared upon request.
