7th-grade students take the iReady diagnostic 3 times during the year. We'll use a modified schedule for this and the kids will be given plenty of time to complete the testing. I want them to try their best on each of these tests. We are looking to find out where they are and to support them in growth during the year.
Support your student in understanding that these tests are required but they aren't designed to scare them. They are just seeking to know what each student knows. The test is designed to get them to the "just right question level" for them. What this means is that they will get questions that they don't know how to do, and they will get questions that feel too easy. It can feel uncomfortable to get things that are too easy or too hard, so students struggle with this feeling. Know that the test adjusts based on their answers and ultimately finds that "just right place" and lets them know where they are against a nationally normed scale.
I'll be giving each student their information as soon as I can after the test. In some cases, I'll conference one-on-one with the student, in others I will send a video to the student and to you of my talking through the test results, and sometimes we may just get the score sheets. At any time if you are seeking more information, please reach out to me directly.
Select the link below to practice both the state test actual questions, and also to practice the way you will be taking the test. They are taken on the computer and you will have many built-in tools to record your work and show your work so that the state can understand what you know. You will still be able to use scrap paper for work, but you have to transfer anything you wish to have graded onto the computer recording area.
Once you click the link above, select Math and then Grade 7 and one of the sampler choices.
