We will continue our pirate maths investigations. This week we will be going on a partitioning treasure hunt and celebrating finding our treasure by making some desert island drinks.

In English we will be writing character descriptions. We will design a pirate, describing their personality, what they look like and thinking of some interesting facts to describe them.

We will continue our 'Treasure Island' topic: revising our map skills and focusing on our history skills; being able to suggest reasons for change, and being able to identify results/ consequences of historical events. We will also be planning for our exciting exit point on the 27th of June.

This week we will be learning about volume, mass and capacity. Last week, we found out the mass of different objects, measuring in kg and g, then began to compare different masses and work out the difference between measurements. This week, we will continue to compare measurements, but also introduce millilitres and litres to measure volume.

We will read the story ‘The Dinosaur that Pooped a Pirate’. We will then create a story map which will help us to retell the story.

This week in Maths we will continue to create and interpret pictograms, particularly practicing questions such as, how many more and how many fewer. At the end of the week, we will move onto temperature. We will teach temperature in celsius, using how to use and read a thermometer, as well as finding out temperatures in other countries. 


English

Next week we will continue to plan our superhero comic books. After adding speech and thought bubbles to our pictures, we will caption boxes to add detail about when and what is happening in each picture. We will then perform our stories and begin to add more detail to our comics in the form of similes and expanded noun phrases. 


IPC 

Now we have learned how to make stop motion animations, we will plan and make our props for our animations to raise awareness for the problems facing life below water.

During PAWs, we will receive the visit of our friends from Shamrek school to practice with them for the community concert. In music, we are going to learn about the great composer Mozart and discover some of his music.

We will start to look at data handling this week. and statistics. We will be learning how to read pictographs and start making our own surveys too.

Last week we started planning our comic strips about a superhero who is saving and protecting life underwater. This week we will finish our story map and use this to create our cartoon using speech, scream and thought bubbles.

We will learn how to make a stop-motion animation to raise awareness on how to take care of life below water and on the land.

We are continuing to learn to tell the time. We have revised o'clock and half past and will continue to practise this, as well as, moving onto quarter past and quarter to. By the end of this topic we are aiming to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes.

Now we've planned how to catch the yeti, we are going to put our plans into action. The students will write how they captured the yeti and resolution to their epic legends.

Last week we wrote an exciting opening for our legend. This week we will think about the build-up to a climax. A mythical character will be added to the story. Students will be challenged to think about an additional setting and ways to chase the mythical character.

We will design and make a Greece mask out of clay, focusing on the skills of following a plan and choosing the right materials and tools.


PSHE 

We will deliver our PSHE RSE lessons as discussed in the parent meeting.

We will be consolidating our learning about fractions, revising halves, quarters and thirds as well as naming fractions and counting fractions.

Last week we thought about the main character of our legend. This week our learning activities will be focussed on describing the setting. Next, we will combine our knowledge of the character and setting to write an exciting opening for our legend.

We use our knowledge of aboriginal symbols to create Aboriginal art. The students already saw their teachers dressed up as Greek characters, next week they will get to know the stories behind these characters.


PSHE 

We will focus on playtime behaviour and how to play positively with our friends.
