This Week's Learning

 Week Beginning: 13th June 2023 Term 4 Week 10

Next week we will be doing various fun-filled activities to celebrate the 'End of The Year'.

On Monday we will have our end-of-year celebration assembly (Please bring children to school by 8:10 am) 

On Tuesday we will go swimming. 

On Wednesday we will be having a STEM-based day where the children will do a carousel of STEM-related activities and then on Thursday, we will visit Forest School for the final time this academic year.

Friday will be the last day of the school year and we will finish school at 11:45 am.

Music

We will be presenting our celebration assembly and doing fun music games and drum circle. 

Week Beginning: 13th June 2023 Term 4 Week 10

Topic

We will be continuing with the 'Pirate' topic with a treasure hunt, and making a cloth flag to display in class.

Phonics

This will be a consolidation week and we will be reviewing all the sounds and digraphs. The children will be practicing blending and segmenting words with digraphs, sentences, and caption writing.

Maths

We will review counting, number formation, one less and one more using a number line. 

Music

We will continue to play different instruments of the percussion family and practice our songs and dances for the celebration assembly. 

Nepali

We will practice a Nepali rhyme ‘Pani Paryo pani paryo…| पानी पर्यो बाल गीत and we will revise the food and taste in Nepali.

Topic

The children have been showing a great deal of interest in 'Pirates and Pirate Ships'. So we will be introducing the topic 'Pirates' next week.

We will be learning two new digraphs /or/ and /ur/. The children will be practicing blending and segmenting words with digraphs, and caption writing.

Maths

We will work on various areas in Maths.

We will continue to play different instruments of the percussion family and practice our songs and dances for the celebration assembly. 

Nepali

We will practise a Nepali rhyme ‘Pani Paryo pani paryo…| पानी पर्यो बाल गीत and we will revise the colours in Nepali.

We will continue to work on our topic 'Growing' and we will be looking at varieties of plants, vegetables, and fruits that have sensorial and textural qualities. We will be planting our plants from the 'Seed Experiment' in our garden to see how it grows.

Phonics

We will be learning two new digraphs /oo/ and /oi/. The children will be practicing blending and segmenting words with digraphs, and caption writing.

Maths

We will continue to work on measurement- heavy/light and baking cookies to use the measurement skills (continue from last week). The children will also be doing some number revision work.

We will continue to play different instruments of the percussion family and sing songs about friendship and happiness.

Nepali

We will continue to work on our topic 'Growing' and look at 'Parts of Plants' through observation of plants around the school. They will also be doing some experiments to differentiate the various tastes and textures of fruits and vegetables. The children will be bringing a sheet on Monday to translate a few words related to plants and flowers in their home language.

We will be learning two new digraphs /ow/ and /ai/. The children will be practicing blending and segmenting words with digraphs, and caption writing.

Maths

We will be working on measurement- heavy/light and baking cookies to use the measurement skills. The children will also be doing some number revision work.

Week Beginning: 1st May 2023 Term 4 Week 3

Topic

We will continue to work on our topic 'Growing' and look at 'The Life Cycle of Plants' through the story. Children will be doing a bean germination experiment and recording their observations in a 'Seed Journal'. 

Phonics

We will be learning two new digraphs /igh/ and /oa/. The children will be practicing blending and segmenting words with digraphs, and caption writing.

Maths

We will be learning to skip counting by 2 and review number concepts. 

Music

We will continue to explore the sounds and timbres of different instruments in the classroom, dance and learn a friendship song.

Nepali

We will learn about Lord Buddha and Buddha Jayanti. भगवान बुद्ध तथा बुद्ध जयन्ती बारेमा हामी सिक्नेछौ ।

Week Beginning: 24th April 2023 Term 4 Week 2

Topic

We will continue to work on our topic 'Growing' and look at things plants need to grow through a story 'Tiny Seed' by Eric Carle. Children will be planting flowers and vegetables in the garden and the pot they decorated this week.

We will be learning two new digraphs /ai/ and /ee/. 

Maths

We will continue to work on number bonds through games, and song.

Music

We will continue to explore the sounds and timbres of different instruments in the classroom, dance and learn a friendship song.

Nepali

We will continue learning about our house मेरो घर ( kitchen utensils and objects in Nepali). घर, भान्छा कोठा, चम्चा, काँटा, टेबुल, प्लेट, दराज आदि ।

Story

We will be reading the story 'The Tine Seed' by Eric Carle and doing various activities on plants and flowers.

Maths

We will be discussing that numbers are made of small numbers and introducing number bonds. 

Music

After the break, we are going to learn a new song about our planet and play ukulele and percussion instruments.

Week Beginning: 20th March 2023 Term 3 Week 10

Story

We will continue to focus on the story 'The Three Littel Pigs'. The Children will be designing their own characters for their story. 

Phonics

We will be starting chapter 3 sounds. The children have been introduced that sometimes two letters come together to make one sound and they are called digraphs. We will be introducing two new digraphs /ng/ and /ch/. 

Maths

In Maths, we will be looking at halving or sharing equally. 

PSHE

We are going to have our 'Pantosaurus' session. With the help of our friendly dinosaur Pantosaurus, talking about PANTS is a simple conversation to help keep all children safe. 

World languages

We will continue to learn rhymes and songs from around the world.

Nepali

We will continue to learn about our house and the objects we commonly use in Nepali. घर, झ्याल, ढोका, भित्ता, बैठक कोठा, स्नान कोठा, सुत्नेकोठा, भान्छा कोठा

Next week we will be focusing on the traditional tale 'The Three Little Pigs' and focus on story sequencing and retelling.

We will continue to focus on doubling numbers 1 to 5, and make a number sentence for the double numbers. 

Phonics

In Phonics we will learn two alternate pronunciations, voiced s/z/ and a/ar/. 

World languages

We will continue to learn rhymes and songs from around the world.

Music

We will learn a new song and play different instruments like keyboard and ukulele.

Nepali

We will learn about our house and the objects we commonly use in Nepali.

Request for Junk

EYFS is looking at developing a 'Maker Space' area, it would be wonderful if you could bring in varieties of junk materials like bottle caps, bottles, empty boxes, nuts and bolts, or any odd toy parts which you are planning to throw away. Thank you in advance.

Week Beginning: 27th February 2023 Term 3 Week 7

Book Week

Monday- Mr. Palmer and Mr Sands our secondary teachers will come and read a story to our youngest learners. 

Wednesday- Book Swap (please send one or more books for the book swap by Monday).

Thursday- 8:45 am buddy Reading with 6E, 10:30 am EKTA Book Shop Trip. Bedtime Stories 4 - 4:45 pm Library (Can dress up in their pyjamas and should be accompanied by their parents).

Friday- All children are invited to dress up as their favourite literary character, Fashion Show Parade.

GET CAUGHT READING COMPETITION: Send pictures of you reading in an unusual place for this competition. Email your picture to bookweek@tbs.edu.np

This week we will focus on the story 'What the ladybird heard?' and the children will develop their own characters based on the thieves in the story.

In Maths, we will be exploring directions and learning positional language through map making. We will also be using Beebots to explore directions and encourage the use of directional language to describe the path to the Beebot.

Phonics

We will be learning two new sounds /v/ and /w/ and continue to practice common exception words (I, no, go, to, the into, he, she, we, be, me).

We will be focusing on story sequencing skills.

Story Focus

Our story of the week is 'Dinosaur goes to the store' by Ken Alside. The children will make a list of things needed to make cookies and go on a shopping trip. They will also be buying things that we need to make playdough.

Maths

In Maths, we will continue to focus on numbers 1-15 and learn to find one more or one less than the given number. We will also learn the names of two 3D shapes (sphere and cube) and identify these shapes in the environment. 

Phonics

In Phonics we will be learning two new sounds /l/ and /j/. Review a few common exception words (he, she, be, me). We will continue to practice our blending and segmenting skills to read and write words.

Individual Reading in Foundation 2

We have started individual reading with the F2 children, so they will come home with CVC word cards and/or books every Friday from next week. 

Most Foundation children will start with picture books. These are wordless books that tell a story through pictures. This helps children to develop their speaking and listening skills through creating and telling stories. 

This level is then followed by individual CVC word cards. This is the very first level of word reading. The number of words increases slightly as your child progresses through the reading level. Children will move to this level when they are confident at sounding out and blending simple CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words e.g. cat, and, bag.

After this, the children will bring home decodable reading books. These decodable books are composed almost entirely of words made up of grapheme-phoneme correspondences (GPCs) that a child has learned up to that point. There may also be some other words such as common exception words and carefully selected character names.

Your child will have a few word cards or one book a week which we would like you to read twice with them. We will record the books the children have read and make a comment about their reading in their ‘Reading Log’. We would appreciate it if you could do the same. This will help us know when it is time to change their words/book. 

We will also be reading individually with the children in school. The times of this may vary so please can you ensure that your child brings their reading book and Reading Log to school every day. Please make sure the children bring a book bag (you can buy it from the school shop) by Wednesday, so we can get the words/book sorted for Friday.

Dear Parents, 

Next week we will continue the 'Shopping' topic and focus on the book 'What would bear buy?' Children will be learning to use everyday language related to money and shopping. 

In Phonics, we will be introducing two new sounds /b/ and /f/, and a few new common exception words (he, she, be, me). We will continue to practice our blending and segmenting skills to read and write words.

In Maths, we will continue to work on numbers 11- 15. We will be focusing on number formation, ordering and sequencing, and one-to-one correspondence of these numbers. 

This week's Parent Information Session is on E-Safety. It will take place at 8 am on Thursday 26th January in the Secondary Library.

Whole Primary Notice

The following rules need to be followed:

All children staying after school should be accompanied by an adult who is supervising them whilst they are playing

The area they can play in is the slide area & the garden at the back

If they need to go to the toilet their adult should go with them but wait outside the toilet whilst they go in

Children with no secondary siblings can stay until 3 pm

If children are waiting for a secondary sibling, they can stay until 3:30 pm or 4:30 pm if they have had a club (they should not be waiting at school from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm as this is too long)

There is still an option for siblings to wait in the library supervised by a member of staff until 3:30 pm and they should not go out in the play area unless they have an adult accompanying them
