Maths Practice Maths facts daily for 10-15 minutes. Don't lose what you have built up this year, as you will need it for Year 5. Some of you have extra practice that has been sent for daily revision.
English You should be reading each day for 20-30 minutes. Discuss what has been read with family members. Read aloud to siblings and relatives...even pets! Please write during the holidays to record your travels, create imaginative stories or even write about newly acquired information. You have a Free Write journal that was sent this week!
IPC Find new topics of interest and spend 3 times a week learning something new about that interest. We will be curious to see what new learning you have pursued.

Maths As the year concludes we will be revisiting topics covered throughout the year by applying our learning to a real world situation of starting and operating an originally designed restaurant. Students will be using all four operations (addition/subtraction, multiplication/division) in scenarios that could expect to encounter in this simulation activity.
English We will be using this week to finish reading The Iron Man story. In writing, students will be revising sentence structure and demonstrating appropriate use of sentence mechanics while learning and applying newly acquired vocabulary.
IPC Students will have combined classes between 4A and 4M to research topics related to how our bodies function and how to maintain proper health. Students will be presenting their information during the exit point in small stations to showcase knowledge.

Maths Given the short week before half term, we will revise chapters on Fractions and Decimals to ensure students have a strong foundation to round out the year. Students are also revising individual areas of needs in small groups. It would be beneficial for students to continue to use TTRS and Mathletics regularly to retain and revisit key skills and concepts.
English Having begun the study of The Iron Man, children will be identifying how language, structure and presentation contribute to meaning in a story. Maths We continue Chapter 13 on Positions and Directions by describing the location of various points on square grids. We will identify how drawing the grid lines help us when describing the position. We will be describing the position of a point in terms of its distance from the x-axis and y-axis and reading coordinates to plot points. Using the first quadrant, students will describe movements between positions as translations of a given unit to the left/right and up/down.
English This week children will begin their new story: The Iron Man.We will be exploring how to write a newsreport and how to write descriptive and exciting sentences.

For Tuesday, May 9th, Please have students wear house shirts for House photos.
Maths We are beginning Chapter 13 on Positions and Directions. In this chapter, pupils will learn how to describe the positions of objects and figures. They will learn how to describe positions on grids using coordinates. They will be introduced to the x and y axis', and build an understanding of how coordinates are written. They will learn how to translate shapes using the terms 'left', 'right', 'upwards' and 'downwards', and will use coordinates to describe a figure following a translation.
English Our students have taken on the "We Love to Read" challenge with great enthusiasm. Each day we record the accumulated minutes that contribute to the class total. Please remind students to be reading a minimum of 20minutes each night to maintain healthy reading habits. This week we will wrap up writing our adeventure stories that build upon 'Oliver and the Seawigs'. Students are working hard to use creative language that 'shows not tells' the reader about characters and events. We are also focused on organizing our stories for maximum excitement that follows an adventure storyline.

IPC As we continue to explore Goal 13 Climate Action from the SDGs, students will work in collaborative focus groups to become experts on water sustainability, deforestation and carbon footprints. They are working towards creating original infomercials that will help educate the local community about the importance of these issues. Students will be using a variety of sources to gather and organize information to spread awareness. We will also be using our ICT time for research and using digital tools to create edited shorts.

Week Beginning: 24th April Monday 2023 Term 4 Week 2
Welcome back to Term 4! We have been very busy this week. We look forward to seeing you all at Sports Day, tomorrow at 9:15am at TBS.
Maths We are beginning Chapter 12 on Geometry. This will go on for the next two weeks. In this chapter, pupils will learn about types of angles. They will name and compare angles, and use this information to help when classifying triangles and quadrilaterals. Pupils will explore symmetry and symmetrical figures before applying this knowledge to the completion of symmetrical figures. They will draw lines of symmetry on shapes and figures, and will combine this knowledge and understanding to sort a variety of 2D shapes.
English We will focus on creating original poems with a theme related to the SDGs and our current study related to IPC. We will revisit elements of poetry and further develop our understanding of how to use each to reach the readers. We will also be reading a good deal of nonfiction text to gather information and evidence to help build strong arguments.

IPC Last week we had an entry point to open a new 4 week unit related to Sustainable Development Goals. Year 4 have a focus on Climate Action. As you have been informed by Ms. Wheatley, on Tuesday, March 21st we begin a Rest of the World Rocks competition in TTRS! Please encourage your child to participate daily within reasonable timeframes. We are looking forward to sharing successes! We will also begin Chapter 10 on Length, Mass and Volume. The chapter begins with estimating and converting metic units using length and mass. We will be drawing on our knowledge of decimals to the hundredths in doing so.
English
In English we will use visualization to help us better comprehend while reading and listening to reading. When students visualize what they are reading, they form images of the story in their minds. This skill improves reading comprehension because it teaches readers to use input from all of their sense (sounds, sights, smells, tastes, and touch) to form images about what they are reading.

As we continue to learn about early inventions and inventors, we will also start to look more closely at the historical significance of inventions and how they may have come about due to special events in history. Maths We will conclude our unit on decimals with a Chapter 8 Review to consolidate our understanding. Next, we will begin Chapter 9 on Money. In this chapter, we will learn how to count and record in pounds and pence. They will make links between tenths and hundredths, and decimal notation for money. Our focus to start will be on writing amounts and comparisons.
English In grammar, we will revisit how to understand idioms and recognise them when reading. We will also begin an instructional writing piece to create a character using character traits (physical and personality). In a shared reading of Oliver and the Seawigs, students are strengthening their inferencing skills by drawing on prior knowledge and clues from the text. Please try and encourage the application of this at home when reading!

Week Beginning: 27th February 2023 Term 3 Week 7
Maths This week we begin a new chapter on Decimals where students will learn about tenths and hundredths. We will begin by making connections to fractions. They will learn how to count, order and record the decimals in different ways. We will begin to see the equivalence between tenths and hundredths, and will be able to compare and order the numbers.
English We will be beginning a new book study using our inferencing and predicting skills. It is a perfect connection to World Book Week taking place this week! There are a variety of literacy activities planned throughout the week to develop a love of reading and literacy, including a family night! Be sure to be on the lookout for BINGO cards coming home. In grammar, our focus will be on using subordinating conjunctions.

IPC This is the final week for our production on Peter Pan! We will be rehearsing daily in preparation for the live performance on Tuesday, February 28th at 4:00pm/16:00. PSHE With the upcoming Holi holiday, we will make connections between different cultures and celebrations and how the help to make our cultures unique. We will explore having appreciation for differences in culture as well as the importance of being openminded and educating ourselves about others.

The children have done an incredible job memorizing their lines, performing their parts and showing off their beautiful singing voices. Week Beginning: 6th February 2023 Term 3 Week 5
Maths
Students will learn about the 24-hour clock. They will learn how to use both the 12-hour clock and the 24-hour clock. They will convert between units of time, such as minutes and seconds, and hours and minutes. We will learn how to solve time problems involving conversions and will calculate durations of time in relation to word problems.
English
We have been journaling daily about our experiences as actors as we continue to develop or Oracy and Performance skills in English. We will incorporate body language as a mode of communication and self-expression. Building on our understanding of familiar stories and playscripts, we will write story extensions to continue storylines using our own imagination.

Maths-
We will continue to build on our understanding of fractions by exploring simplifying fractions, improper fractions and leading into addition and subtraction of fractions. Do have a look around the home and help your child identify where fractions are used!

We will have a review of using dictionaries and thesauruses to develop greater understanding of new words as we expand our vocabulary to create incredible descriptions of sets, scenes and characters. Our focus for the Peter Pan production will be on becoming the character emphasis on intonation, tone and expressions while speaking.

We have been exploring the roles of the theatre and how collaboration amongst everyone is essential for a great show. Students are delving into their creative and artistic sides to create amazing sets and using spatial reasoning to set the stage! We are looking forward to showcasing their talents soon!
