Tourism
Tourism!, mass tourism became a thing in the 17th century. (Actually tourism began about 1,000 BC). Starting at the aristocratic sites in Germany, France, and italy. Tourism is When people go on a holiday or go to a tourist attraction they are usually curious. But tourism is mostly about having a good time at a place that you're unfamiliar with, like going to a far reached place to go watch a rugby game or play a rugby game but now tourism is put at a stop due to Covid-19 All around the world tourism has been hugely affected. A lot of businesses have gone out of business. Some tourist attractions have been lucky to still have their businesses running.
How important is the tourism industry to New Zealand ?
Tourism in New Zealand has been quite lucky in terms of Covid-19. The tourism industry is quite important to the New Zealand economy making about 11.2 billion dollars. In a lot of locations in New Zealand tourism is one of their main focuses for money making and attracting tourists to their town. An example of a tourist attraction is rotorua there are many tourist attractions there and I personally go there a lot for that same reason. Also before Covid-19 hit, the tourism industry employed 8.4 percent of New Zealand's workforce due to Covid-19 that has dropped to 3.9 percent.
What will tourism look like in the future ?
Tourism in the future could turn into many different things. In the not so distant future it will be pretty much the same except tourism won’t be as popular as other activities that don’t involve going anywhere such as vertical reality and e-sports. So people don’t have to go and waste petrol/ electricity, they can just look at a screen and that doesn’t involve any effort whatsoever.
But in the distant future it may look like just futuristic more advanced things to do such as more exciting rides at theme parks and more. Another thing that could put a huge affect on international tourism is climate change. But how could that affect the tourism industry?, it would have a huge effect on cold countries like Switzerland, Sweden, and some places in the USA. without any snow or ice they can’t run the ski fields unless they figure out a way to make tons of snow with some sort of machine. Also tropical countries there won’t be as many tourists because the rest of the world will have the same temperature water and air.
What impacts have the pandemic had on tourism?
The Covid-19 pandemic has probably had the biggest impact on tourism with lockdown and social distancing the tourism industry can’t make any money or pay any staff. The New Zealand tourism industry has been very lucky because we only went into lockdown for seven weeks while a lot of the world looks like this.
Now the New Zealand tourism industry is up and running again, but the rest of the world's tourism industry is still at a halt because of lockdown. After the pandemic I think around the world tourism will be a lot less popular because a lot of businesses will have gone. unless we do something about it.
Should some tourist attractions reduce their prices?
The answer to this question is yes. But why should they reduce the price? My expert says the tourist attraction he works at is seeing a lot less international tourists, but a lot more tourists from around the country. But when people come to their attraction they don’t want to pay 100$ for a boat ride to a hole in a rock. So that problem is not our fault but it's the business owners that are being greedy and want more money but not many people are willing to pay that amount of money for some attractions so they should reduce the price so people can have fun and the tourism economy should reduce the price.
What should we do to help the tourism industry?
again one way is uncontrollable which is to reduce the prices, only direct tourism companies can change that, And if we protested or something only some companies would reduce their prices. Another thing is that we could travel around the country and take this opportunity to explore our own country to support our own tourism industry, instead of booking for a trip overseas 1 years before its going to go ahead and with that you don’t know what's going to happen in a year's time with the pandemic.
