Intro
I am doing my ancestry report on my great grandad\Leo Peter Hubert Lenssen, why he left the Netherlands to go to New Zealand. He was born in the Netherlands 0ctober 31st 1922, his father and mother were Gerard Jozef Hubertus Lenssen and Philomena Josephina Eijssen and they were a family of 15. My great Grandad came to New Zealand around 1932 to 1950. He Married Gertrude voncken in Hamilton 1952. They had 10 kids, the oldest one is my grandma Philomena Johanna Marie Lenssen. I think it was a good time to move from the Netherland in 1930 because there was a national movement and Hitler was trying to take over the Netherlands. As in New Zealand, there were lots of lands, plenty of food and the economy was growing.
Push factor 1
One of the reasons my Great Grandad move from the Netherlands Is because of Adolf Hitler from Germany. He started to take over countries one of them was the Netherlands. They found out in 2008 that the Nazis Paid a bounty to Some of the Netherland police which scouted out all the jews for the Nazis to come and get them. The Netherland surrendered to the Nazis. They set up concentration camps for the Jewish people, they wiped out 70% of them. The people that lived in Netherland had to live with the Nazis, eat very little like soup, bread cheese. I think that he made a very good decision moving out of the Netherlands before the Nazis came in and made chaos. If he stayed I might have not been alive or it would have been hard to live there.
Push factor 2
The Great Depression in the Netherlands occurred between 1930 And after World War 2. The depression leads to more things like National social movement in the Netherlands, Nethility, riots. The United States had a wall crash in 1929 which started the depression started more gradually, in 1929–1931, but the economy had been in a gradual decline for a longer period them most Countries. In the Netherlands, the depression lasted significantly longer than in most countries, partly because of structural characteristics of the Dutch economy and partly because of the policy of the government. If I was his child I would not want to be growing up in that so he made a very smart decision to move and raise a family where there is farming land and more jobs and the economy hasn't broken.
Discussion of Push factors
When my Great Grandad was born in the Netherlands things had already started to go wrong so by time as he got older things started to get worse and worse. One of the things as you read and push factor number two was the gold block it's still the country for a couple of years and they could not do international trade in that time the national social government had a big movement which caused the country some trouble. All of that cause the economy to not run smoothly throughout the country. And if that wasn't enough to make my great uncle move out of the country Hitler started bombing the country killing the Jews and causing even more trouble for them. I am not surprised that my great Grandad moved from the country Because it would have been very very hard to raise a family And to find a job.
Pull factor 1
There had just been a great loss in the farming industry because of world war 2. But from 1930 to 1950 which is when my Great Grandad came to New Zealand, the dairy industry in Farming started to take off and that is what my Great Grandad did for a job milking cows. Meat, wool and dairy products consistently earned over 90% of New Zealand’s export income. During this period there were many technological advances that benefited farmers. For example, improved roading reduced the isolation of many rural communities and made transportation faster and cheaper. The introduction of electric power to rural areas benefited farms, and tractors and new machinery made many jobs less labor intensive. Farming was a good way to live back then and it has been in our family for generations all thanks to him we could continue our farming and New Zealand with a better country.
Pull factor 2
The government and the economy in New Zealand were very stable. They could support their country with plenty of food and free health like hospitals fire engines and policeman. By 1950 New Zealanders enjoyed a high standard of living and was ranked the top five Richest countries in the world.living in New Zealand at that time would have been very nice it was a very wealthy country in that.
Discussion of Pull factors
When my Great Grandad was looking for a nice place to raise a family, New Zealand was looking like a pretty nice place to live back then. World War 1 had just occurred with New Zealand so when they went there was a lot of free land spear jobs and there weren't so many people. my Great Grandad had a bit of farming experience so this new land would have been a very good idea to start up a farm with the dairy industry making good money. because of not many people in New Zealand it was plenty of food for everybody and the economy was very good at the time.
Conclusion
If my Great Grandad was still alive today I would thank him for moving to New Zealand because I really enjoy living here. He made a really smart decision moving here because if he was still in the Netherlands he might have died from the World War 2, cold, food or water and if that happened the amazing Corin Rankin wouldn’t have been born. I guess it wasn't too hard making a decision because of New Zealand big pull factors like farming and economy. Out of all his brothers and sisters, I'm pretty sure that he was the only one that moved to New Zealand.
