IntroductionWho was my ancestor that immigrated to New Zealand Who was my ancestor that immigrated to New Zealand
In 1833 my ancestor James Busby emigrated from Edinburgh. He was the son of John Busby and Sarah Kennedy. He came to New Zealand because he was ordered to New Zealand by the government of England to be the first-ever governor of new Zealand and sign the treaty of Waitangi. This report will detail the push and the pull factors of why James busby came to new Zealand
Biography
James Busby was born on 7 February 1802, he was a winemaker, engineer, jurist, and educator all of those jobs in Edinburgh.
Push factor 1
I think a push factor for James Busby would be all of his jobs overwhelming him. anAll of the people he was working for and the pressure. In England winemaking in the 1800s would have been very hard to grow a vineyard because of the climate. It would have been cold and wet and for grapes, the climate needs lots of suns and to be quite warm that the winemaking pushes.
The jurist job would have had quite a lot of pressure if you could not pick sides. Also, around 75% of all recorded crime in eighteenth-century London at this time was petty theft.
Being an engineer in the 1800s, new Zeland the cars and automobiles would not have gotten a lot of customers because only the wealthy back in the day could afford cars.
Educators could just not pay enough in the 1800s. just imagine what teachers get paid
Today, then try and imagine what teachers get paid back in the 1800s.
Push factor 2
This climograph is of Edinburgh it shows you what the climate was in Edinburgh of the year 1833 and why James Busby would have moved to New Zealand. here is the new Zealand climograph below.
Pull factor 1
James Busby came to New Zealand in 1833 on the H.M.S Imogene. While he was fighting furiously against the high seas trying to get to new Newzealand many attempts were made and lots of trips there and back. Some trips did not make it to New Zealand because it was too rough to cross the pacific ocean. This was one of his pull factors is because he was determined to get to New Zealand also in the back of his mind he would have been thinking that the Country of New Zealand was counting on him to run the country.
Pull factor 2
Busby's role when he came to New Zealand was to protect settlers and traders, prevent outrages by Europeans against Maori,
and apprehend escaped convicts. He had no means to enforce authority and was nicknamed the 'Man-o-War without guns'. I think this is a very good reason to come to New Zealand and be the first law throughout the country.
Discussion of push factors.
Push factor 1 was the most important factor. With the mas amount of responsibility.
With four jobs all together almost in the same time frame. He had a lot of work on his hands.
With huge responsibility, he still had to put food on the table for his family.
Discussion of pull factors
The most important pull factor is that he was going to be the second factor because he was going to become the first law of New Zealand. he was protecting the Maoris and Europeans from fighting. And making sure everyone was safe, while not letting any convicts escape.
