The Technology department at Tawa College is delighted to announce our new event for the Wellington region. The event is open to anyone residing in the Wellington region; and to secondary school students enrolled in a Technology Fashion / Textiles course at a school in Wellington or Kapiti regions.

The categories for this years show are below:

Secondary School Year 11 Sustainable Design Category

1st Prize $500  2nd Prize $200 

3rd Highly Commended Certificate

An original fashion garment designed using concepts of sustainable design considering one or more of the concepts of; recycle, reuse, rethink and reduce. While your design may begin with a commercial pattern, the final garment is more than ‘just following a pattern’, it must be visibly changed from the original and clearly demonstrates your own creative design work. You need to consider the whole look, which includes make-up, headwear, footwear and accessories as required, to show your garment/s to their best advantage down the runway.

Secondary School Category Year 12 / 13 Open

3rd Highly Commended Certificate

An original fashion garment that clearly demonstrates your point of view as a designer. There is no theme for this category, it is open to enable you to show your creative design perspectives. You need to consider the whole look, which includes make-up, headwear, footwear and accessories as required, to show your garment/s to their best advantage down the runway.

3rd Highly Commended Certificate

An original fashion garment designed and made using and transforming pre-loved garments. The pre-loved garment/s must be visibly changed from their original form and clearly demonstrate your creative point of view as a designer. The garment may be for day or evening wear.  You need to consider the whole look, including make-up, headwear, footwear and accessories. You will need to submit a clear, colour photograph of each pre-loved garment used in the creation of your fashion garment in pdf format, to be displayed on the digital screens as your garment comes down the runway.

An original garment that is art and made to be worn. This category is limited only by your imagination. There are no theme or material limits, but we do encourage you to use a significant proportion of reused / repurposed materials, to be mindful of sustainable design. You need to consider the whole look including make-up, headwear, footwear or accessories. Your model must be able to walk without constraint down the runway. 

Forward to the Future_2050

Open Category

1st Prize $500  2nd Prize $200 

3rd Highly Commended Certificate

An original fashion garment that suggests what we might be wearing in 2050. This category could consider how new natural resources will be more limited and / or look to how we may manufacture garments in the future, to considering what the style might be in 2050. You need to consider the whole look including make-up, headwear, footwear or accessories. Your model must be able to walk without constraint down the runway.

New Zealand is a nation that is inclusive of many cultural heritages. An original garment that reflects your own personal heritage/s. The garment may reflect traditional materials / techniques from those heritage/s or be a contemporary representation using modern or traditional materials and techniques. You need to consider the whole look including make-up, headwear, footwear or accessories. Your model must be able to walk without constraint down the runway.

If your garment does not fit any of the other categories, then this category is for you. The final look should be head - to toe, so you need to consider the whole look including make-up, headwear, footwear or accessories. Your model must be able to walk without constraint down the runway. 

The Overall Supreme Show Winner, will be chosen from the 1st Prize  winners of each Category.
