Improving Maths Results

2021 school year began with a focus on the state of mathematics in New Zealand and the need to examine how maths has been taught, as well as what is contributing to the decline in results over the past two decades.

At TAS, teachers have been exploring this very issue and have been focusing on what we can do to help students become more confident and more engaged in mathematics.

Around New Zealand, many professionals have been working hard to address poor results in mathematics. One of which is Dr Audrey Tan of Mathmo Consulting. Dr Audrey Tan spoke at the NZPF(NZ Principal's Federation) conference recently about how to improve mathematics. She has been a passionate advocate of introducing students to column math for a long time and was able to share her reasons at the conference. For further information about Dr Tan, follow the link. Ultimately, by working together, parents, teachers and students can improve mathematics results. This website is a collection of resources to help parents support their child's progression in mathematics.
