Genius Hour!
Students participated in genius hour! They chose a topic of their choice, posed a question, conducted research, and created a presentation to share their findings!
Volumevilles!
Students in my math class constructed their Volumevilles! Students are tasked with making nets into prisms & finding the volume of each prism in order to build a city!
Baby Chicks!
The chicks hatched and we had a blast playing with them!
Shape Robots!
We made shape robots to showcase our understanding of the properties of quadrilaterals!
Stargazing!
We learned about stars and space in science! Students researched, wrote, and built constellations!
Filters!
We designed filters and built prototypes. We reflected on our designs and made necessary revisions!
Testing the Waters!
We used pH strips to test a variety of water samples. We were able to identify which samples were safe to drink.
Water, Water, Water Cycle!
Learning about the water cycle through a fun water cycle in a bowl activity! Students used clear bowls, hot water, clay, plastic wrap, and ice cubes to model the stages of the water cycle!
Holiday STEM Challenges!
We learned that elves drink mixtures of corn syrup and water, and we participated in a fun STEM challenge!
Gingerbread Houses!
What a fun day in math! We designed and built “gingerbread houses!” Then, we found the volume of our houses!
Invasive Species Project!
We learned about invasive species! Students worked with their groups to research an invasive species in the USA. They created wanted posters & brainstormed ways to get rid of/control the spread of their invasive species!
Science-gram!
Forget Instagram…welcome to Science-Gram! Students in my science class made Science-Gram posts about two concepts that we have learned this unit!
Spooky Halloween Math & Science!
We had a blast in room 318 on this spooky day! We made oobleck in science, and we played a fun Halloween activity in math, “Eyes on Math!”
Chemical & Physical Changes!
We investigated chemical changes today with some mini labs! Our favorite labs were the elephant toothpaste and bleach, baking soda and food coloring solution!
Mass & Matter Madness!
Is mass conserved when matter combines with other matter? We investigated the Law of Conservation of Mass!
Food Truck Frenzy!
We researched food trucks, created logos and slogans, found the volume/surface area of their truck, and built our own!
Math Cartoons!
Look at some of our finished math cartoons! Students had to choose a topic that we learned about this year and draw a cartoon to explain it. We are having a blast!
Amusement Park Coordinate Grids!
We finished our amusement park/zoo coordinate grid project today! Students had to plot coordinate pairs and design an amusement park/zoo! They did a fantastic job working in small groups!
Equation Clock Project!
In math class, we are working on a clock project! Students have to create their own equations and inequalities so that x equals the time on the clock! We are having a blast!
Sign Language!
To celebrate the end of MCAS for our sixth graders, we learned about the history of American Sign Language and how to sign the letters of the alphabet! We also learned how to sign our names! So fun!
Absolute Value Wanted Posters!
Today we learned about absolute value! To demonstrate our understanding, our students had to choose their favorite number and define and identify the absolute value of their number! We absolutely had a blast!
Digi Blocks!
We used my favorite manipulatives today: Digi Blocks! We are starting our unit on decimal operations tomorrow and we wanted to make sure we had a good grasp on decimal place value!
Teacher for the Day!
Our students were teachers today! They read and graded other students’ MCAS open response answers using a rubric! Our students rocked it and had a blast!
Team Building!
Can you build the same tower as Mrs. Cavallaro? Students completed a team building activity where each student in their team was assigned a job (looker, speaker, builder, teacher speaker) & had to work together to build a tower!
