TÜBİTAK 3501 – Modeling and Optimization of Grid-Integrated Energy Systems for the Demand-Side Management of Data Centers

Funding: TÜBİTAK 3501 – Career Development Program
Period: 2021–2023
Principal Investigator: Hamza Salih Erden
Research Group Members: A. Can Duman, Ömer Gönül, Kaan Deveci, Beltus Wiysobunri Nkwawir

The project focused on the development of a holistic energy management framework for the demand-side management of data centers through the integration and coordinated operation of multiple energy systems.

The research investigated the modeling and optimization of grid-integrated data center energy infrastructure, combining energy system management with the operational and thermal characteristics of data centers. The project aimed to improve the flexibility and energy efficiency of data center operation while enabling more effective interaction with the electricity grid.

The project brought together researchers from the Informatics Institute and Energy Institute at Istanbul Technical University and contributed to interdisciplinary research at the intersection of data center energy management, demand-side management, thermal systems, grid integration, and optimization.
