Math

The Math 4th grade Elementary Program is based on Common Core State Standards and Core Knowledge. This course uses the Math in Focus series and a variety of resources to comply with the grade standards.

This course provides captivating activities, differentiated instruction, cooperative learning, hands-on activities, and the use of technology.

Assessments may include: Quizzes, Tests, Projects, Homework, Classroom Work, Math Menu, Classroom google slides, centers and Board Choices.

ELA

The Making Meaning® program is a reading comprehension curriculum for K-6. This program combines research-based best practices in reading comprehension with support for fostering your students’ growth as caring, collaborative, and principled people. 

 The lessons integrate instruction and practice in reading comprehension strategies with activities that foster the students’ social, emotional, and ethical development.

Assessments may include: Quizzes, Tests, Projects, Homework, and Classroom Work.

Spanish

The Spanish program is also based on Making Meaning so students will be able to acquire and apply the strategies in their Spanish language.  

By using Making Meaning, the lessons will have the integration of reading comprehension practices and activities that foster students' social, emotional, and ethical development. 

Evaluation methods will include using a variety of assessment such as Spelling Quizzes, Vocabulary Quizzes, Tests and Special Projects.

Writer's Workshop

Fourth Grade will promote the learning of three different writing pieces including narrative, informational text, and expository text. These will be profoundly developed in the Writer’s Workshop, and practiced in the ELA and Spanish courses. 

Writing is a way to express human emotions and  knowledge. Each piece of writing requires different style and tone which can decide on the basis of the content of the writing. No matter what you write it is very important for you to stay focused on your purpose of writing.

Science

The Science Elementary Program is based on the Core Knowledge Sequence Grade 4 Standards. We created a curriculum rooted in hands-on activities that motivate students to explore and learn in a dynamic environment.

The assessments that will be included in this course are the use of an interactive notebook, quizzes, classwork, special projects, oral presentations, and classroom research.

Social Studies

The Social Studies Elementary Program is based on the Core Knowledge Sequence Grade 4 Standards. It offers students opportunities to develop skills needed in the present day’s world such as: critical thinking, evaluating evidence, organizing material, methods of investigation and research, debating, computer & technology.

The class assessments include the use of an interactive notebook, quizzes, classwork, special projects, oral presentations, and classroom research.

Grading

Why grading is important? It provides an accurate and understandable descriptions of learning. Regardless of the method or form used, grading should communicate effectively what students have learned, what they can do, and whether their learning status is in line with expectations for that level. Students’ grades will be posted on Veracross and will be determined by the following grade scale:

Homework Policy

Homework is important because it teaches responsibility and it maximizes classroom instruction. It helps reinforce lessons that have been learned in class, and helps prepare students for upcoming lessons and tests. To accomplish this objective, students will spend 45 to 60 minutes a day doing homework . Please encourage your child to do his/her best work.  Homework will be announce through Veracross and Google Classroom.
