My name's Michael Bonner. I've been a teacher at TCS since way back in 2001, and I'm very proud to be a part of this school. I wouldn't want to teach anywhere else. I grew up in Jamestown, New York (about an hour south of Buffalo), graduated from the University of Colorado with a BA in English Literature, received an MA in Anthropology from the University of New York at Albany, and earned my teaching endorsement from Fort Lewis College in Durango. Before moving to Taos, I taught 4th and 5th grade for four years at Mesa Elementary School on the Navajo Nation in Shiprock, NM.
Prior to teaching, I worked for several years as a ski patroller and snowmaker in Colorado at Eldora and Telluride. During that time in the late 90's, I also spent a year as a VISTA-AmeriCorps member working with children and families through an educational program at Native Head Start schools in the Four-Corners area. It was that teaching experience which sparked my love for working with kids to help them achieve their full potential.
My wife Hillary, was a teacher and administrator for years at Taos Middle School and Taos Academy. Since 2016, she's been managing her family roofing business, based in Santa Fe and Taos. We have a very big mellow fluffy dog named Penelope, and a crazy little blue heeler named Pippa. For fun, we love to hike, kayak, camp, ski, swim, and travel.
