ASTRO CAMP Week 3

Welcome to Torbotics' 3rd week of ASTRO CAMP! It has been an honor to work on this series of virtual camps throughout this summer to share with so many families and community partners throughout our region. Not only have we learned a lot of amazing NASA science, but we have grown closer as a team and had a blast getting caught up in the inspiration shared by so many campers. There is so much in store with space exploration between now and next summer when we plan to launch our next ASTRO CAMP series. Some of what we, at Torbotics, will be following:

  • Mars 2020 Rover - Perseverance is set to launch sometime around the end of July 2020 (~7/20/20) and will land on Mars next February.

  • NASA satellite OSIRIS-REx, which has been orbiting the asteroid, Benu, for months is set to make a "touch and go" on the asteroid's surface this October. In just a few seconds of contact, the satellite will use its arm to collect a sample of the asteroid's surface to send back to Earth. (See activity on Day 3)

  • Almost daily you can find updates of the SLS in its final construction and testing phases as we rapidly approach the launch of Artemis 1...bringing us that much closer to the return of human presence on our Moon!

  • Our camp COMS Director, Lauren, is still eagerly anticipating the delivery of her dinosaur Zero Gravity Indicator...She is hoping her's comes in the mail before the original dinosaur ZGI returns from the ISS onboard SpaceX Dragon.
