Description
In this project, the aim was to develop and evaluate a simple, AI-driven GIS model that is capable of identifying locations in Brazos County that indicate characteristics similar to other locations where surface wells have historically been. The strategic planning of oil and gas well placement is very important in oil extraction and to the entire field of energy development, as it involves large financial investment and the consideration of many different factors, whether it is geological, environmental, economic, or infrastructural. The ability to mitigate some of this risk is through the combined efforts of GIS and AI, as it presents a unique opportunity to create approaches that are more data-driven and spatial analysis driven. This project aims to do just that. By creating and evaluating a simple AI-driven GIS model that identifies locations on a small scale (such as the county level) that show spatial significance and characteristics that are similar to oil wells that already exist in the study area by using publicly available geospatial data.
