About

Campus-CERT members Brandon Gale (left) and Connor Kishiyama (right) exercise fire safety skills in the G-317 training.

What is Campus-CERT?

The Campus-Community Emergency Response Team educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their local area, and trains them in disaster response skills, such as: fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, Campus CERT members can assist others on their campus or neighboring community following an incident when professional responders are not immediately available to help.

How We Got Started

First founded in 2018 by Charles Sassaman (Middle Row, Left), the organization found its place at Texas A&M and has been growing ever since. In the organizations first year, we were able to train fellow Aggies, participate in service events, and host training exercises to put skills the students learned to the test in a real world scenario. At the end of the year, Campus-CERT was activated for the first time through Brazos Valley-CERT to aid in response to the EF-3 tornado that hit Franklin, TX.

Field Exercise: Campus-CERT members practice skills in transporting victims at the Wide Area Search and Rescue Exercise.

About the Training

Our goal is to train students, faculty, and staff at Texas A&M in the G-317 -Community Emergency Response Team Course. We believe this curriculum enables students to be "the help before help arrives". We also offer additional trainings at our monthly meetings that allow our members to get certified in additional materials, such as the Stop-the-Bleed course.

Emergency Communications: Campus- CERT members receive training from the Kurten VFD on how to properly operate a radio in times of an emergency.
